Volunteer: COVID Code Red ResponderAmerica’s blood centers need donors #NowMoreThanEver. The COVID-19 pandemic is devastating our blood supply: blood drives have been canceled and donors are afraid to visit centers. The American Red Cross has recommended hospitals reduce blood product utilization by 25%. This is a deadly shortage that affects millions, including anemic, transplant, cancer, surgery, sickle cell, trauma, and pregnant patients. There is no alternative for blood. In response, we have launched our COVID Code Red campaign to support blood centers and the healthcare system. The goal of this campaign is to start a social movement to bring greater awareness and rally young people nationwide to advocate for their local centers. UBI leadership would provide support to those volunteers or Code Red Responders. Responders have the opportunity to make a substantial impact on the health of their community and give back during this hard time.

Volunteer: Alpha Supported Living Services is asking for In-kind donations to keep our clients and staff safe in their homesRight now, our main challenge is finding the necessary personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies and other supplies necessary to serve our clients and the staff in their homes. As people continue to deplete the stock in the stores, we are trying to secure gloves, gowns, masks, goggles, disinfecting wipes and sprays, bleach, hand sanitizer, hand soap, paper towels and other supplies necessary to properly disinfect the homes and provide protection for our staff and the individuals we support. There is a lack of resources, so we are worried that our current supply will not last throughout this crisis. Unlike other businesses, we can’t follow the recommendations from the CDC and Department of Health and have our staff work from home. Our staff provide 24-7 care in the homes to the individuals we support, so we need to continue to provide staffing in the homes. Specific items we are in need of currently are: Hand Sanitizer Disinfecting Spray N-95 Masks Grocery Store Gift Cards for our clients Our staff have been very creative at finding sources of PPE and other necessary products but when we find them we must act fast. Monetary donations are gladly accepted to go directly to our COVID19 response.
You can mail your donations to: Alpha Supported Living Services 16030 Juanita Woodinville Way NE Bothell, WA 98011 or go directly to our website www.alphasls.org
Our office is closed to visitors and volunteers, please contact Dave Bushnell at dbushnell@alphasls.org if you have any questions in regards to your donation.

Volunteer: Help KCSARC Support Survivors of Sexual Assault & Vulnerable FamiliesPLEASE HELP KCSARC SUPPORT SURVIVORS AND VULNERABLE FAMILIES
The King County Sexual Assault Resource Center wants the community we serve to know we are continuing full operations during the COVID-19 public health emergency. This includes our 24-Hour Resource Line for help and information at 1.888.99.VOICE, as well as therapy, family education, legal advocacy and other supports for survivors and their families. All services are offered in both English and Spanish. Survivors face enormous barriers to justice and healing under the best of circumstances. The majority of families KCSARC serves are further stressed by closures of workplaces, schools, childcare and more. They are anxious about loss of income and supports ushered in by the crisis. As we absorb the unanticipated costs of new technology needed in order to deliver uninterrupted services, our nonprofit is also scrambling to respond to clients’ escalating needs for basics like groceries, transportation, or housing to make it possible for them to participate in therapy and engaged in their legal cases. Over the last three years, demand for KCSARC’s services has increased 22% and has held steady. As we respond to survivors who are now facing enormous additional barriers to healing, our nonprofit’s resources are stretched thinner than ever. Volunteer: Donate Supplies to a Meals ProgramFor 31 years, Catholic Community Services Issaquah Meals Program (IMP) has been serving hot, nutritious dinners to anyone in need, no questions-asked, Mondays-Fridays. Since COVID-19 entered our communities, IMP remains open and will continue to provide hot meals and a warm, dry space for those who have nowhere to go. However, we anticipate more individuals and families utilizing our services during this challenging time.
To help us accommodate for the anticipated growing need, we are asking financial contributions and also for supplies such as paper plates, paper cups, napkins, hand sanitizers, and disinfecting wipes for our dedicated volunteers that serve meals each night for proper and safe clean up. If you are interested in serving meals during this time or to coordinate supplies drop off, please contact Griffin Cole at 425-679-0342. We understand it is not possible for everyone to serve meals due to health concerns, we always appreciate meal donations. Please note that meals must be prepared in a commercial kitchen under supervision of someone with a food handlers permit. Additionally, there is an application process for those who would like to serve meals.

Volunteer: Health Care for All-Washington Board of DirectorsThe covid-19 crisis is a deafening wake-up call of the inadequacy of health care availability and access in America, and of the fiscal politization of our public health system. Health Care for All Washington has long advocated for universal access and coverage of health care. Our mission is high quality, sustainable, affordable, publicly financed, privately delivered health coverage for all Washington residents. We seek to eliminate the stark disparities in health and health care by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and citizenship status; and to expand and rebuild our public health system capable of rapid response and resiliency in the face of contagion or catastrophe. Most of us want to make a difference, to leave the world a better place. People who have health problems, or who would be financially devastated by an illness or accident, are on the sidelines of life. .We believe that Health Care for All Washington is making a difference, because access to health care enables admittance to life and all she has to offer: liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.” Formed in 1994, HCFA-WA is the oldest grassroots organization in Washington that is solely dedicated to bringing about publicly funded, privately delivered universal health care. Two-thirds of its Board of Directors are healthcare professionals, providing expert guidance and insight into the development of public policy. And we have been effective. HCFA-WA was instrumental in the progression and passage of the Pathway to Universal Health Care Bill, as well as the Cascade Care Bill, in 2019. This year, HCFA-WA advanced several bills containing costs of prescription drugs and addressing the cost of insulin; the bills we incubated passed with nearly unanimous support. We seek individuals committed to the evolution of our health care system. While we always need and welcome providers in healthcare, HCFA-WA is in need of those with backgrounds in financial analysis, budgeting, fiscal policy, legal compliance and disclosure, public relations, and communications, governance, and development. Purpose of New Board and Committee PositionsDetermine the policies and board procedures necessary to advance single-payer universal health care in Washington; strengthen the organization’s research and policy development; ensure the organization is operating at peak efficiency and in full compliance with all applicable laws and intent; expand HCFA-WA’s membership; raise funds to support the operation of HCFA-WA’s programs; and directly advocate in the public policy arena. Term: Three years, eligible for re-nomination thereafter. Meeting Attendance Monthly board meetings (12) per year, in person or by ZOOM Standing committee meeting (serve on 1 or 2; meetings vary) Ad hoc committee (as appointed) Special events (as announced) Occasionally: Program events as announced (as a board representative), Training in board membership Annually: Board Planning Retreat (June), Annual Meeting (October/November) Primary Board Member Responsibilities Develop and ensure policies and procedures that are in harmony with the agency’s mission. Ensure effective program planning, development and accountability. Secure financial and other resources required to support, sustain and grow HCFA-WA legislative and policy efforts by mobilizing the active participation of all volunteers and supporters. Ensure the financial affairs for the agency are conducted on a responsible basis in accordance with the law, established policies and donor designations. Specific Duties of Individual Board Members Understand HCFA-WA: believe and act on its mission, goals, objectives; and advocate for HCFA-WA within the community; promote HCFA-WA in ways appropriate to your profession and contacts. Attend meetings - regularly, on time, and throughout for the entire meeting. Be well informed and prepared on all meeting agenda items. Participate fully and openly in meetings – share insights, ideas and suggestions based on experience and professional expertise. Consider and respect other points of view, make constructive suggestions and help the board make prudent group decisions. Participate as an active member on at least one standing committee, as well as any special ad hoc committees to which appointed. Be a financial supporter of HCFA-WA, making an annual contribution appropriate to your personal circumstances. Some of whom are in various stages of rehabilitation. Please consider donating to support the horses at Serenity by going to our webpage and clicking on Donate or making an in-kind donation by calling Reber Ranch and crediting our account so we can pick up hay, grain and supplements. As an animal care facility, we are covered under "essential businesses" under Washington State's Stay Home, Stay Healthy initiative. We cannot care for all our animals without our volunteers. If you have time to spend on the farm we are accepting volunteer applications through our website as well. Please consider coming to the farm and joining our Volunteer Family www.serenityequinerescue.com/volunteer or www.serenityequinerescue.com /donate Thank you so much, Stay well.

Volunteer: Early Stage Memory Loss Support Group Facilitator“It was an opportunity to interact with people at the same stage I was in and it helped me have a greater understanding that I’m not alone. And I don’t feel alone anymore.” -ESML Program Participant
Join our team and make a difference in the lives of participants! Our Early Stage Memory Loss(ESML) Support Groups provide an invaluable network that people with memory loss can turn to for advice and encouragement to help them feel socially connected and give them a sense of belonging and purpose. Support Group Facilitators create a space for that important interaction by encouraging conversation and maintaining a positive and caring environment.
Our volunteers continuously learn and grow alongside the participants while serving a population in need of great support. “When I began leading the ESML program, I realized that I did carry a stigma based on a fear of not knowing how to interact with people with memory loss and what to expect from them,” said Melinda an ESML Walk Volunteer. “The greatest thing I’ve learned is that people with memory loss are just people. And even though they have memory loss—they’re here. They may not be able to respond to you the way people without memory loss respond, but when they give you a hug, grab your hand, look you in the eye—they’re here.”
Our Chapter's volunteers receive excellent training, ongoing support, resources, and continuing education opportunities.
Individuals who are often best qualified as support group facilitators include: working or retired social workers, nurse and other healthcare professionals, educators, clergy, counselors, and former family caregivers. Commitment of at least one year is required Agency: Alzheimer's Association “It was an opportunity to interact with people at the same stage I was in and it helped me have a greater understanding that I’m not alone. Volunteer: Filling voting board member positions within chapterOur chapter is actively looking for several key leadership positions / new voting board members coming up in 2020. These leadership position needs are as follows: Women's Initiative Co-Leader (board position) The mission of TU’s Diversity Initiative is to create effective strategies and programs to recruit a more diverse membership profile in TU; encourage diversity within leadership at the chapter, state and national levels; and to ensure every chapter creates a welcoming environment for TU members of different genders, ethnicity, ages, and cultures to achieve the TU conservation mission. Many chapters may choose to appoint a women’s initiative coordinator, a youth education coordinator and/or a veterans services partnership coordinator to work on these unique initiatives. Some have found value in appointing someone to the umbrella role of diversity coordinator, such that someone is responsible for driving the chapter’s diversity goals forward on a broad level. The Women’s Initiative (WI) Chapter Coordinator provides opportunities for women to engage with TU locally, demonstrating TU’s leadership development. Guided by “the Women’s Initiative Leadership Best Practices – Position Task List & Responsibilities,” the Chapter Coordinator recruits new women members, engages them in TU’s mission, facilitates their retention, and promotes them in leadership roles. This individual actively develops or enhances women’s events at the chapter level, initiates new programs to provide meaningful engagement opportunities for women, facilitates membership drives to increase women membership, and communicates directly to women in the chapter. Once appointed or elected by the chapter board, the WI Chapter Coordinator will have access to all educational/event materials available from the National Leadership Council’s Women’s Initiative Workgroup, support from the Workgroup including access to experienced women in this role, as well as other operational resources found in the online Tacklebox and membership rosters and reports in the Leaders Only Tools section of tu.org. The WI Chapter Coordinator is encouraged to develop an annual WI Plan for the chapter, along with an associated budget. In this annual planning effort, the WI Chapter Coordinator, would be supported by the WI State Coordinator and all resources and shared experience available through the NLC’s Women’s Initiative Workgroup.

Volunteer: Looking to fill non-voting leadership team rolesThere are several positions within our leadership team that will be supportive to our board and instrumental in the operation of our nonprofit moving forward. These positions do not have the same level of commitment as our voting board members do, but definitely help the function of our organization! These positions include (but are not limited) to the following: Chapter Membership Chair Many chapters appoint a membership chair whose duties include tracking the membership of the chapter, welcoming new members and encouraging existing members to renew their membership. For many of TU’s fastest growing chapters, the membership chair has taken on a more proactive role of developing and implementing a new member recruitment plan and engaging current members often by being the friendly and familiar face of the leadership at chapter events. The membership chair performs the key role in helping current members resolve membership issues, maintain member’s contact information, and communicates changes or issues with member records with TU national staff. The membership chair also tracks membership numbers within the chapter (using the roster and membership reports found within the Leaders Only Tools), welcomes new members who join, and follows up with members who have not renewed. Beyond tracking these statistics, the membership chair takes the lead on programs to recruit new members. Chapter Meeting Coordinator This leadership position will help coordinate monthly events / meetings and act as a point person between President, Secretary, and Media Relations chair. Duties in this position include reaching out to potential guest speakers to help schedule presentations and coordinate with venues for monthly chapter events. Often this information needs to be shared to both Secretary and Media Relations chair in order to send out newsletters and update social media with calendar events as plans are solidified. Volunteer: AUBURN, Give rides to change lives, drive a senior in need!Seniors need your help! Getting to the doctor’s office is a daunting task for many local seniors. Poor vision or medical conditions prevent them from driving; limited mobility makes it impossible to take the bus; taxis come with prohibitive costs; and loved ones have full-time jobs that render them unavailable to help. So who do they turn to? Fortunately, volunteer drivers can fill the gap. Volunteer Transportation is a program of Sound Generations, a non-profit organization working to help seniors remain safely independent and connected to their communities. Every week, there are a growing number of older adults in need of transportation but not enough volunteers to do it all. Volunteer: Provide Childcare on Monday evenings in RentonVision House is a Christian social service agency based near Seattle, Washington. Since 1990, Vision House has provided housing, support services and child care for homeless families with children. Volunteers will spend time with Vision House resident children - playing games, reading books, doing crafts. All activities will be planned in advance so volunteers will show up each week and have fun. These activities may seem simple, but without individuals to care for and spend time with the children, then the parents cannot attend crucial life skills training classes. Vision House is a Christian organization. We ask that, even if you do not share our beliefs, you respect them. While we do not have any mandatory spiritual activities for our residents, we do ask volunteers working in direct contact with residents to sign our statement of faith.
