For many of TU’s fastest growing chapters, the membership chair has taken on a more proactive role of developing and implementing a new member recruitment plan and engaging current members often by being the friendly and familiar face of the leadership at chapter events. The membership chair performs the key role in helping current members resolve membership issues, maintain member’s contact information, and communicates changes or issues with member records with TU national staff. The membership chair also tracks membership numbers within the chapter (using the roster and membership reports found within the Leaders Only Tools), welcomes new members who join, and follows up with members who have not renewed. Beyond tracking these statistics, the membership chair takes the lead on programs to recruit new members. Chapter Meeting Coordinator This leadership position will help coordinate monthly events / meetings and act as a point person between President, Secretary, and Media Relations chair. Duties in this position include reaching out to potential guest speakers to help schedule presentations and coordinate with venues for monthly chapter events. Often this information needs to be shared to both Secretary and Media Relations chair in order to send out newsletters and update social media with calendar events as plans are solidified. VHC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care access and services to under-resourced populations of Vietnam, while promoting proactive learning and firsthand experience in primary care for our student members. VHC hosts mobile health clinics in rural Vietnam, providing services such as medical, dental, optometry, physical therapy, pharmaceutical and public health education. With the help of student members and healthcare professionals along with our local community, sponsors and volunteers, we have been able to provide aid to over 13,000 patients over the past ten years. We have now started to expand our health services to support low-income patients in the Greater Seattle area as well, starting with a partnership with International Community Health Services (ICHS).
What’s unique about VHC is that we integrate student mentorship into the goal of our mobile health clinic, providing student members with valuable clinical experience working alongside healthcare professionals in Vietnam. Leading up to the mobile health clinic, we train students to prepare for every aspect of an international mobile health clinic - from measuring vitals, taking medical history, interpret and assist our health professionals to cultural competency. In addition, all students work to raise funds, acquire supplies, and plan logistics for the trip; allowing them to develop important skills like communication, work ethic, leadership and teamwork. Since the creation of VHC, over 350 students have volunteered with us and more than 40% have gone on to successfully pursue careers in healthcare.
VHC board members provide valuable guidance and resources to strengthen the impact that our nonprofit has on the community while helping to guide the lives of young people. We are looking for board volunteers who want a meaningful way to contribute their time and skill that is reflective of their passion and values. Job Carr Cabin Museum hosts over 40 school groups each year. We rely on musical performers to engage elementary school children in learning about frontier life. In early October, the hatchery will be a focal point of Issaquah's Salmon Days, celebrating the annual return of the salmon to Issaquah Creek. FISH docents are needed for our fall tour season. Volunteers are needed for the following tasks: Weekday school tours Weekend fall tours Assisting Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) staff with egg collection and fertilization Attend outreach events*Volunteers are able to help out in whatever positions interest them.
